February Meeting Notes

Our February meeting was this past Saturday, and here is a recap of what we talked about:

Valentine's - We made Valentine cards for nursing home residents.

Accio Books - Accio Books is the HPA's annual book drive, which takes place from March 1st - April 1st. We spent the majority of the meeting brainstorming and planning for this year's Accio Books drive. Chapter members are welcome and encouraged to collect books on their own, but Dumbledore's Army of Delaware County's main push with this is going to be our Accio Books Party. All are welcome to join us for the Accio Books Party! It is going to be on Saturday March 27th from 11am to 2pm at the Helen Kate Furness Library, 100 North Providence Road, Wallingford, PA. Guests are encouraged to bring new or gently used books to donate. All of the books that we collect at the party will be distributed to local organizations. As an incentive to donate books, we will be having raffles where 1 book = 1 raffle ticket. We're getting some nice prizes together, including house scarves and movie gift certificates. We are also going to have some fun Potter-themed games and activities for guests to participate in, including trivia, Potter bingo, puzzles, a spelling bee, cookie decorating, and bookmark making.

Helping Haiti Heal - The HPA coordinated an interfandom campaign called Helping Haiti Heal. In two weeks, $123,000 was raised for Partners in Health! This is enough money to charter three cargo planes full of life-saving supplies from Miami to Port-au-Prince. The planes are even named Harry, Ron, and Hermione.

Magical Acts of Warmth - The Harry Potter Alliance recently launched a campaign called Magical Acts of Warmth. The goal of this campaign is to get warm clothing and blankets to those who need them. The DA of Delaware County is going to be crafting for two organizations for this campaign, the Snuggles Project and Warm Up America. The Snuggles Project (www.snugglesproject.org) makes blankets for shelter animals. Warm Up America (www.warmupamerica.org) makes afghans for those in need.

Next Meeting - Our next meeting will be Sunday March 7th.

New members are always welcome! If you would like more information about the DA of Delaware County, please e-mail danielleg@thehpalliance.org. We are a chapter of the Harry Potter Alliance. To learn more about the HPA, please visit www.thehpalliance.org.

A Few Reminders

Helping Haiti Heal - The deadline to donate to Helping Haiti Heal has been extended to Saturday February 6th, 11:59 p.m. HHH is an unprecedented, interfandom campaign to raise money for Haitian relief. Besides helping a great cause, you can be entered to win some pretty unique prizes when you donate, http://www.thehpalliance.org/haiti/prizes. So far, HHH has raised $85,000, which is enough money to charter two cargo planes full of supplies from Miami to Port-au-Prince. There will be another live webcast at 2pm on Saturday to wrap up the event.

Next Meeting - The next chapter meeting meeting is this Sunday February 7th. We will be doing a Valentine's project, as well as brainstorming for some upcoming projects.
